On December 29, 1934, in England, Arkansas, a beautiful life began. Born to the late Sabe Burton and Emma Burton, Elnora Lewis was raised with values that would remain evident throughout her life—faith in God, devotion to family, strength, love, and perseverance.
At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at East Macedonia in Tomberlin, Arkansas. Her faith became an important foundation upon which she built her life. Through changing seasons, joyful moments, difficult days, and the many responsibilities that came with raising and caring for a family, she carried with her a belief in God and a love for those He placed in her life.
Elnora Lewis entered into eternity on September 4, 2026.
Elnora, a woman whose greatest earthly treasure was her family. She understood that motherhood was more than a title—it was a lifelong ministry of loving, teaching, sacrificing, encouraging, correcting, praying, and providing. Her children knew the strength of a mother's love, and her grandchildren and succeeding generations were blessed to experience the warmth of a grandmother whose life helped shape the family they are today.
Her home, her presence, her words, and the lessons she shared became part of the fabric of her family. Through her, generations learned the importance of staying together, caring for one another, and remembering where they came from. The years may pass and circumstances may change, but the influence of a loving mother and grandmother never disappears. Her fingerprints will remain upon the lives of her family for generations to come.
Elnora was also a hardworking woman who eventually retired from UAMS, completing a chapter of faithful employment and service. Her life demonstrated the dignity of hard work and the importance of providing for those entrusted to her care.
She leaves a beautiful family legacy to cherish her memory, including her daughters, Dorothy Leary of Sherwood, Arkansas; Diane (Charles) Johnson of Maumelle, Arkansas; and Emma Lewis of England, Arkansas; and her sons, Billy (Patricia) Lewis of England, Arkansas; Jerry (Laquita) Lewis of Malvern, Arkansas; and Danny (Pamela) Lewis of Little Rock, Arkansas.
She also leaves to cherish her memory her brothers, Jimmy (Maud) Burton of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Sabe (Maggie) Burton Jr. of Little Rock, Arkansas, along with her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, church family, neighbors, and friends whose lives were made richer because she was a part of them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sabe and Emma Burton; her sisters, Christine Burton and Sadie Mae Hutchinson; her brothers, Henry Burton and Willie Burton; and her sons, Larry Lewis, Charles Hendricks, and Charlie Lewis Jr.
Though her earthly journey has come to an end, her story does not end here. A mother's love continues in the children she raised. A grandmother's wisdom continues in the generations she influenced. Her prayers live on. Her lessons live on. Her sacrifices live on. Her love lives on.
There will be moments when the family longs to hear her voice one more time, sit beside her one more time, or share one more conversation. Yet in those moments, may they remember that the greatest tribute they can give her is to love one another, remain connected as a family, hold tightly to their faith, and pass the values she gave them to the generations that follow.
She came into this world on December 29, 1934, and between the day God gave her life and the day He called her home, she filled her years with something that death can never erase.
