Obituary

Gregory Lawrence Heinze, 72, of Lonoke, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, from cardiac arrest.  Known to many simply as "Greg," he was a devoted husband, gifted aviator, mentor, and a dear friend whose kindness and optimism touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Born on September 11, 1953, in Colby, Kansas, Greg was the beloved son of the late Matilda Barbara Heinze and Lawrence Elmer Heinze. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Lisa, a daughter, Holly, her husband Kyle and their three grandchildren, London, Rockwell and Penelope.

From a young age, he showed a drive to explore and create—first through photography, where his talent developed early and shined brightly, and later through aviation, which became his life's passion.

Greg's career as a pilot was nothing short of remarkable. As a commercial pilot, test pilot and instructor, he flew countless types of aircraft and even piloted for well-known public figures. His technical skill, calm presence, and ability to solve complex problems made him indispensable to colleagues and students alike. A true mentor, he encouraged young aviators to pursue their dreams, offering both his expertise and his friendship. Many who learned under him credit Greg's guidance for shaping their careers.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Greg will be remembered most for his gentle heart, his joyous humor, and his zest for life. He delighted in sunsets, clouds, and quiet evenings with a cup of tea shared with his wife, Lisa Elefritz Heinze—his steadfast companion and partner in life.  Those who knew Greg fondly recall his ever-present stash of tea bags and his laughter that could fill a room.

A memorial service to celebrate Greg's life will be held in the coming weeks in Lonoke. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and inspiration that will forever soar in the hearts of those who knew him.
