Harold Mays
January 8, 1965 – April 1, 2025
Harold Mays, a devoted father, visionary leader, and beloved member of the Fort Smith community, passed away on April 1, 2025, at the age of 60. Born on January 8, 1965, Harold was the cherished son of John William Mays and Joyce Marie Martin and the devoted twin brother of Carrol Mays.
Harold was the proud father of Gabrielle Mays ( Velecia Mays), whom he loved dearly and who was the light of his life.
A true servant leader, Harold dedicated his life to uplifting others and enriching his community. He was the co-founder of the Lonoke Community Choir, where his passion for music and ministry touched the hearts of many. He served faithfully as the pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, guiding his congregation with compassion, wisdom, and unwavering faith.
Harold's journey in life took him from his hometown of Fort Smith to Little Rock, and eventually to Lonoke—each moves marking a new chapter in his growth, purpose, and spiritual calling. Along the way, he formed lasting connections and left a meaningful impact on every community he touched.
One of Harold's most enduring contributions was the creation of Lonoke's very first Black History Parade—a celebration that brought the community together and honored the legacy, achievements, and resilience of Black Americans.
Harold's life was a testament to love, service, and vision. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, unity, and cultural pride that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, church family, choir members, and the many lives he touched throughout Fort Smith, Little Rock, Lonoke, and beyond.
