Ronnie Carl
Mosby
February 1, 1958 – November 24, 2025
On February 1 1958, a baby boy was born to Jake and Frances Mosby. According to his mother, Ronnie Carl was born different. He came into the world with one eye open and an eyebrow raised! Ronnie enjoyed life doing the things most children his age did. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 408, which was co-founded by his father. He played basketball. He enjoyed catching snakes with his brothers as the farmed across Prairie County. But as Ronnie continued to grow, his true passions revealed themselves, music and the word of God.
The Mosby family believe in three things: God, Family, and Hard Work! But even in the midst of such a musical God fearing family, no one was aware that Ronnie had been called to preach. One night, during a Saturday night musical at Mt. Sanai Church of God in Christ, Ronnie stood before God and the congregation announcing that he had "accepted the call from God" into the ministry. By his side was his girlfriend, Bernadette Kay Simpson. The two had just graduated from their perspective high schools (Hazen High School & Conway High School) and were an item. They would wed only six months later.
While at UALR Ronnie worked to perfect his musical talents, singing in Gospel Competition Choirs. Ronnie would graduate from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock but would chose to continue farming with alongside his father. During this time, Ronnie began his ministry of music across the state of Arkansas with his wife, Bernadette, daughter Eudora Leola, and son Ronald Calvin. The young family sang with Ronnie as he taught music to choirs for church and pastoral anniversaries. He taught music workshops for Saturday night musicals. Ronnie also began to preach, and as his gifts matured, other churches began to take notice.
One day Ronnie was contacted for a meeting with the deacons of Union Chapple Freewill Baptist Church. Among those present were Earnie Metcalf, Grant Metcalf, and Ben Metcalf. And in May of 1990, Pastor Ronnie Carl Mosby became the pastor of Union Chapple. This was the beginning of a lifelong passion and love for and with the people of God. This was where he would become acquainted with the fellowship of New Mt. Zion FWB Church as well. The Freewill Bapstist church was instrumental in teaching the young pastor how to care for God's people with love, patience, and dignity. Many days and nights would be spent with grieving widows, members in nursing homes, hospital visits, bedside communion services, prayer over the phone and in the homes of members and their families, afternoon dinners prepared in the homes of the church mothers, choir practices, prayer meetings, conference trips…the list goes on and on. Serving as pastor was more than a job to him. It was a calling that he loved and would continue for the rest of his life at Jehovah's Community Temple and New Mt. Zion FWB Church.
And while some pastors are able to just preach on Sundays, Pastor Mosby could never limit the word of God to a couple of hours one day a week! For the rest of his life, he had a Word from the Lord for any and all he encountered. Whether he was in the Clarendon School District, Stuttgart School District, teaching or driving the school bus, he had a Word. Sometimes he was throwing papers for the Democrat-Gazette or filleting fish with his cousin at Murray's, but he had a Word. Ask any of his coworkers from Riceland Foods and they will tell you, Pastor Mosby ALWAYS had a Word.
Pastor Mosby spent his free time fishing and smoking various wild game. And while you could never be certain what you were eating when you visited the Mosby house, you always knew it would be delicious!
Daddy had opportunities to leave the Delta that he loved. He could have become the pastor of a "Mega Church" but that was not him. He remained true not only to his faith, but also to the communities that raised him and us over the years. The people that prayed for us, fed us, supported and loved us.
You may have read this and thought that all he did was take care of God's people. He probably had little to no time for his family. But not so. He took care of you, and you took care of all of us!
Pastor Mosby was preceded in death by both of his parents, Jake and Frances Mosby as well as his oldest brother Jarvis Mosby. Pastor Mosby leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Bernadette K. Mosby, daughter Eudora Mosby Evans, son Ronald Mosby, siblings, Roy Mosby, Jeffery Mosby, and Delphia Mosby and a host of nieces and nephews.
