Stewart Douglas Burton was born March 3, 1961 and grew up in
Carlisle, Arkansas. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age, being
baptized at Mount Canaan Baptist Church and later baptized at The
Historic Revelation Church of God in Christ. As a boy, Doug loved going
to church, learning about The Lord and developing community,
communication, and life skills.
He attended both elementary and high school in Carlisle. He excelled in
academics, art, auto shop, and sports; becoming a three-sport
letterman, as a Carlisle Bison. He gained All-District honors in
basketball.
He went on to attend the University of Central Arkansas, in 1979,
majoring in Art. He later volunteered, joined, and served in the United
States Air Force, serving for two years as an aviation mechanic, with a
rank of Airman E-3.
Doug always excelled in writing, was prolific in art, and he had a great
love of music, cars, travelling, and because of his previous experience
as a mechanic, he also possessed an aptitude for vehicle restoration.
Doug leaves to mourn his brother Marty Wayne Burton (Angelique), his
niece, Alyssa Camille Burton, and great niece Kaylani Wade, his half-
sister, Shevette Greenhow; uncles Kenneth Sears, Earnest Young, and
Blake Allen; aunts Bobbi Jean Smith, Lois Reddix, Leanna Taylor and a
host of cousins.
Doug is preceded in death by his beautiful mother, Missionary Ethelene
Burton and his brother Darrell Anthony Burton.
Stewart Douglas will be sorely missed by family and friends who dearly
loved him.
