Timothy’s Special Story

Timothy Matthews, 49, of Forrest City, Arkansas, passed away on June 12, 2026. Born on December 7, 1976, in Marianna, Arkansas, Timothy lived a life marked by resilience and love.

Timothy graduated from Brinkley High School and spent much of his life at the Monroe County Human Development Center, where he was a cherished member of the community from the age of 8 until he was 48. His time there reflected his strength and determination, as well as the care and support he received from those around him.

Timothy was raised in the Seventh-day Adventist faith and attended Twin Pines SDA Church in Smales, Arkansas, during his childhood. As an adult, he continued his spiritual journey at Longview Heights SDA Church in Memphis, Tennessee. His faith was a source of comfort and guidance throughout his life.

Known affectionately as "Greedy Man" during his childhood, Timothy had a playful spirit that endeared him to those who knew him. He found joy in simple pleasures like eating Cheetos and drinking soda. His smile—often appearing for no reason—was a testament to his lighthearted nature and brought warmth to everyone around him.

Timothy is survived by his loving siblings: sisters Tywona Matthews, Shanette Garner (Gary), Lynette Saxton, and Sonia Matthews; and brother James Matthews. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews Darrien Matthews, Darren Logan, Kamari Walker, Madison Walker, Delaysa Johnson, Emersyn Johnson, and Alijah Hemphill. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by his aunts and uncles Patricia Hymon (James), Lorraine Wynne, Philip Cobbs (Felecia), Claudell Cobbs (Maxine),Lillie Palmer, Walter Matthews (Linda), Jimmy Matthews, Sharon Wilson (Hamilton), Wendy Matthews and his special great-aunt Dorothy Hull. Many relatives and friends who loved Timothy.

He was predeceased by his parents Alexander Matthews (Carolyn) and Mattie Lee Hudson; as well as brothers Alex Bernard Matthews, Ricky Turanza Matthews, and Darren "Red" Matthews. Grandparents Parker and Rosie Lee Cobbs and James and Lydia Earnese Matthews

Timothy’s family shared heartfelt reflections on the impact he had on their lives. From Tywona: “I first learned how to care about you as a sister. When our mother passed away I learned to care about you as a parent. Now I know I don’t have to worry anymore. I know I will see you again because you are with the Lord Jesus Christ.” Shanette expressed simply but powerfully: “You will be loved and missed.” Lynette added: “You will be loved and missed beyond words and measure. Your memory will live in our hearts forever.”

Timothy’s legacy is one of love, faith, and joy. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held on June 27, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 02:00 PM at New Genesis Ministries 314 North New Orleans
