Tommy Wade Byrd of Bradford, Arkansas was born to Reo Byrd and Betty Byrd Watters on May 7th, 1960. He passed on December 10th, 2021.
Tommy graduated high school from Hackett High School in 1978. Tommy went on to have a successful Jockey career winning many races and being named the "1993 Oklahoma Earnings Jockey Of The Year". Following his racing career Tommy started a thriving landscaping business in Northwest Arkansas. Tommy chose to return to his career as a jockey in 2005, during this tenure he was named Jockey of the Year at Hialeah Park, Florida. He was most proud of his victories of the Black Gold charity race and the Hopes and Dreams race. He officially retired from horse racing in 2012. Tommy worked on the pipeline in various states including Pennsylvania, Texas, and Oklahoma before settling back in Arkansas with his brother Wayne.
Tommy was a proud Christian man throughout his life. He most recently attended the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Concord, Arkansas with his brother Wayne and sister-in-law Tonya Byrd.
Tommy loved riding horses and spending time training them. His horse Gus was a highlight of his days. He enjoyed his time on the golf course and spending time with friends and family. During down time Tommy could be caught singing songs and playing on his guitar. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and believed deeply in the tenets of friendship, morality, and brotherly love.
Tommy is survived by his sons Jeffery Davis and Daniel Byrd, daughter- in- laws Cara Davis and Kourtnee Byrd and grandson Case Davis and granddaughters Opal Davis and Denver Byrd; Brother Wayne Byrd and sister-in-law Tonya Davidson Byrd; Sister Julie Byrd Efurd and brother-in-law Doug Efurd; and Stepbrother David Watters. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved Tommy very much.
